San Jose 3, Vancouver 0

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Miikka Kiprusoff recorded his first shutout of the season and rookie defenseman Jim Fahey had two assists as the San Jose Sharks blanked the Vancouver Canucks, 3-0, Saturday night in the finale of an eight-game homestand.

Kiprusoff made 29 saves, including 12 in the second period, for his third career shutout and first since a 2-0 triumph over Vancouver last March 9.

Fahey, a former eighth-round draft pick, had the first multi-point game of his brief career. He made spectacular passes to set up goals by Vincent Damphousse in the first period and Patrick Marleau in the second.

Niklas Sundstrom added an empty-netter in the final minute for the Sharks, who finished a 3-3-2 homestand with a victory over the NHL's top road team.

The Canucks were shut out for just the second time this season and have lost two in a row for the first time since Dec. 7-9. They have not dropped three in a row this season.
