Colorado 6, San Jose 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Steven Reinprecht recorded his second career hat trick Saturday night as the Colorado Avalanche extended their winning streak at San Jose to seven games with a 6-1 triumph over the Sharks.

After Marco Sturm capitalized on a Colorado turnover to give the Sharks an early lead, Reinprecht made the first of six unanswered goals for the Avalanche just 86 seconds later.

With Colorado owning a 4-1 lead, Reinprecht scored goals less than four minutes apart in the third, completing his hat trick with a breakaway tally at 7:35.

The Avalanche improved to 6-2


1 under Coach Tony Granato, who spent the final five seasons of his NHL playing career with the Sharks.

Defenseman Derek Morris and Alex Tanguay each collected two assists for Colorado, which has won all seven visits to San Jose since a 4-2 setback on Dec. 8, 1999.

Patrick Roy turned aside 40 shots to improve to 23-6-4 lifetime against the Sharks.
