Anaheim 6, Detroit 3

DETROIT, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Brad Fullmer and Troy Glaus hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning and Shawn Wooten had four hits after entering the game in the fourth inning as the Anaheim Angels posted a 6-3 triumph Monday night over the Detroit Tigers.

Anaheim, which improved to 24-12 against the American League Central this season, also got a quality outing from rookie starter John Lackey. The 23-year-old righthander combined with three relievers on a seven-hitter.

Powell was tagged for five runs -- three earned -- and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.

After the Angels left a runner at third in the top of the first, they pushed across a pair of runs in the second. Scott Spiezio reached on a throwing error by second baseman Easley. Adam Kennedy doubled and Jose Molina lofted a sacrifice fly to put Anaheim on top and a throwing error by third baseman Chris Truby allowed Kennedy to score.

The Tigers scored three times in the third to take the lead. Truby led off with a base hit and Bobby Higginson singled with two outs. Simon then hit a 2-1 pitch over the right field wall for his 14th homer of the season.

Simon, who had a career-high 11-game hitting streak ended Sunday, leads the team with 62 RBI.

Anaheim drew even in the fourth as Wooten singled, took third on a base hit by Kennedy and scored when Molina bounced into a double play.
