Atlanta 4, Milwaukee 0

ATLANTA, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Greg Maddux pitched six scoreless innings and Chipper Jones and Gary Sheffield drove in runs Thursday night as the Atlanta Braves stopped the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-0, to complete a sweep of their three-game series.

Maddux (11-3) won four straight Cy Young Awards from 1992-95, when he regularly worked deep into the game. During that dominant stretch, he worked 37 complete games. However, the righthander has just 32 complete games in six-plus seasons since, none this season.

Nagging leg injuries and an improved bullpen have reduced Maddux's innings, but his victory total continues to climb. Maddux notched his 268th career win, tying Jim Palmer for 30th place on the all-time list.

Maddux allowed five hits and a walk while striking out five. He went to an unusual seven three-ball counts but extended his streak of starts with two walks or less to 19 while lowering his National League-leading ERA to 2.45.
