NEW YORK, May 25 (UPI) -- Eric Owens had a two-run triple and the Florida Marlins took advantage of a series of New York miscues to score five times in the seventh inning Saturday and defeat the Mets, 6-5.
The Mets took a three-run lead into the seventh before left fielder Timo Perez was unable to come up with a shallow fly ball by Mike Lowell that went off his glove for a one-out double.
Derrek Lee singled to put runners on first and third, prompting manager Bobby Valentine to replace starter Pedro Astacio with David Weathers (2-1).
Owens lined a triple that got past right fielder Jeromy Burnitz, bringing home two runners and cutting the deficit to 4-3.
Pinch hitter Tim Raines was hit by a pitch one out later and Gold Glove second baseman Roberto Alomar booted a ground ball by Luis Castillo, scoring Owens.
The problems continued for the Mets when Andy Fox hit a slow grounder to third baseman Edgardo Alfonzo, who threw the ball up the first base line for an error, allowing the go-ahead run to score. First baseman Mo Vaughn retrieved the ball but hesitated before making a throw, allowing the sixth Florida run to score.
The two recorded errors in the seventh gives the Mets an NL-high 47 this season.
Armando Almanza (1-0), the second of three Florida relievers, pitched a scoreless sixth for the win. Vladimir Nunez allowed a run in the ninth but worked out a jam for his 11th save.
