Los Angeles 10, Chi. Cubs 0

CHICAGO, April 26 (UPI) -- Odalis Perez allowed just an infield single en route to his first career shutout and Shawn Green and Adrian Beltre drove in three runs apiece Friday to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 10-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

In the best pitching performance of his five-year career, Perez retired the first 18 batters of the game. But speedy Corey Patterson beat out a grounder up the middle that Dodgers shortstop Cesar Izturis briefly juggled.

Perez (3-1) then got Chris Stynes to bounce into a double play and retired the next seven batters in order. The 23-year-old lefthander has eased the loss of Kevin Brown this season by giving the Dodgers five quality starts.

Perez has allowed seven earned runs in his five starts and has walked just three. Acquired from Atlanta in the deal that sent Gary Sheffield to the Braves, Perez has held opponents to a .154 batting average this season.

Chicago starter Kerry Wood was tagged for five runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. The righthander struggled mightily with his control, walking seven and throwing just 62 of 123 pitches for strikes.
