Florida 8, Atlanta 3

ATLANTA, April 22 (UPI) -- Cliff Floyd, recovering from a bout with tonsillitis, hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning Mondsay night to power the Florida Marlins to an 8-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Floyd hit a pair of solo homers in Friday's series opener but missed the last two games with his throat ailment.

He helped make the Braves feel ill on Monday as his homer over the center-field wall off Kerry Ligtenberg gave Florida an 8-3 lead. Preston Wilson and Derrek Lee each hit two-run homers in the fifth inning for Florida, which avoided a four-game sweep.

The homers helped make a winner of Brady Penny (2-1), who recovered from a shaky first to allow three runs and eight hits in six-plus innings. The righthander walked three without a strikeout.

Braves starter Kevin Millwood (2-2) was roughed up for five runs and eight hits in 4 1/2 innings. The righthander walked two and struck out two, falling behind 17 of the 24 batters he faced.
