Chicago White Sox 13, Baltimore 4

CHICAGO, April 15 (UPI) -- Paul Konerko homered and drove in five runs and Jon Garland pitched six strong innings before tiring in the seventh Monday as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 13-4.

It was the second straight three-hit game for Konerko, who has seven hits in 10 at-bats following an 0-for-16 slide. The slump ended Saturday with a game-winning RBI single.

The White Sox won three times in the four-game series and have won five of their last six contests overall.

The 22-year-old Garland was dominant through the first six innings, allowing only infield singles to Mike Moriarty in the eighth and Melvin Mora in the sixth. Garland lasted a career-high seven innings, allowing a two-run double to Tony Batista and a sacrifice fly to Gary Matthews Jr.

The White Sox broke the game open with five runs in the second inning. Ray Durham sliced a two-run single to left field, Konerko lined a single to left and Carlos Lee delivered a two-run double to make it 6-0.

The first six runs were charged to Jason Johnson (0-3), who allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings.
