The test flight of the Orbiter, a small electric UAS capable of being carried in three packs by soldiers, was designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the technology for potential future deployment with military units or other security applications.

"AAI and Aeronautics are both committed to developing robust and capable unmanned aircraft," Steven Reid, AAI vice president of unmanned aircraft systems, said in a statement.

"The Orbiter aircraft complements our portfolio of UAS. Its ease of use, reliability and portability, with the added benefit of quiet electric operation, make it an exciting addition to our family of interoperable unmanned aircraft systems."
