Oct. 31 (UPI) -- A driver on an urban Tennessee road captured video of an escaped pony trotting loose through city streets.

Geoff Hampton captured video about 5 a.m. Tuesday showing the small horse galloping down Knoxville's Western Avenue in front of his car.

Hampton said the equine encounter took place near Dunkin Donuts.

A Knoxville Police Department spokesman said animal control investigators determined the pony had escaped from a corral on McKamey Road and was known to workers at the University of Tennessee, where it had been taken to be gelded.

The pony was held by the university until the owner could retrieve it later Tuesday.

Owner Heather McCarty said the pony, named Tank, escaped by figuring out how to work the latches on his corral. She said the gates are now being outfitted with chains to prevent future escapes.

A horse previously was captured alongside a stretch of interstate in Knoxville when it kicked its way out of a trailer in late August. The horse was recaptured with help from police and some motorcycle riders.
