Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Authorities in a Paris suburb said they seized a lion cub from a man's apartment after being tipped off to the animal's presence by posts on social media. The Firefighters of Paris posted photos to Facebook of the lion cub they seized from a Noisy-le-Sec apartment at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Advertisement Firefighters and the brigade's veterinarian were summoned to the apartment by police after the discovery of the lion cub inside the apartment. Police said they searched the man's apartment after social media posts indicated he was keeping the illegal pet. The lion cub was taken to a suitable facility after being checked out by the vet, the fire brigade said. "It is important to remind everyone that wild animals are neither domestic animals nor toys and that they are subject to specific regulations," the Facebook post said. Police said the man, who was previously known to authorities after taking a horseback ride through the streets of Montreuil, was detained and could face charges.
