Elk bulls block Wisconsin highway with knock-down brawl

Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin couple driving home from a Green Bay Packers game captured video of an unusual traffic hazard: Two elk bulls having a fierce brawl in the middle of the highway.

Ellyn Conhartoski, who posted video of the incident to Facebook, said she and her husband Cory were driving home from the football game just after midnight Monday when they found the two animals blocking County Highway M in Clam Lake.

"This was insane!!!!" Conhartoski wrote on Facebook.

She said the elk fought in the road for about seven minutes before allowing vehicles to pass.

Cory Conhartoski can be heard in the video saying the battle left scrape marks on the road.

Ellyn Conhartoski said the males were likely fighting over the attentions of a female elk the couple spotted nearby.
