Odubhraic said he woke up about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and discovered his house had been ransacked. He reviewed the security camera footage and discovered the expected "burglar" had actually been a bear that spent about five hours inside the house, leaving at about 4:30 a.m.
The homeowner said the bear entered through a window that had been left partially open, ripped off the kitchen door, ransacked the kitchen in the search for food, and even peeked into the family's bedrooms while they were asleep.
Bill Vogrin with Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the bear broke another door on its way out of the house.
The bear is believed to be the same animal recorded in Colorado Springs last week when it followed a woman's car into her garage and trapped her inside the vehicle for several minutes.
Vogrin said officials located and euthanized the bear Tuesday morning. He said the bear was considered a threat to public safety because it had no apparent fear of humans.
