BIRTLE, Manitoba, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A group of five piglets found wandering on the side of a Canadian highway were rescued and given a new home.

Valley Recreation District in Manitoba shared a photo of Brenda Marshall-Wilson with the piglet she found and rescued while driving to work in Birtle.

"I look in front of the car and there's this little pig, like almost dancing around in front of me with its nose towards me," she told the CBC.

Marshall-Wilson called upon her experience working in a pig barn to approach the pig before wrapping it in a towel and bringing it into her office.

"I just said, 'Don't panic...don't be alarmed, I'm carrying a pig," she said. "It came out of the towel, turned around and starting warming up its little feet."

A co-worker later posted a photo of the pig to Facebook, prompting someone else to say they had seen another piglet about 12 miles down the highway.

A total of five piglets were found in the area within an hour after Marshall-Wilson found the first one.

"They were found scattered and littered about," she said.

Marshall-Wilson later brought the first piglet to a local Co-op store, where a farmer had agreed to raise all five.

"Well, all's well that ends well, at least for this little piggy," she said. "She should have stayed HOME!"
