"Either our humane officer picked up the strangest looking stray dog today, or the department has a new mascot," police said.

Lt. Matt Van Lieshout told WSAW the pig escaped from a "makeshift" pen during a brief stop in Wausau.

A resident spotted the loose black-and-white pig and informed police what direction it was headed around 4 p.m.

Wausau Police Department Animal Control Officer Ashlee Bishop later arrived at the scene to capture the pig and returned it to its owner.
