AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- An escaped pig stopped traffic after it was seen wandering across a busy highway in New Zealand.
Twitter user Phil Wratt shared a photo of the loose pig as it casually strolled through traffic on Wednesday afternoon.
"It's not vehicles holding you the traffic today it's the animals," Wratt wrote.
A witness told the New Zealand Herald the pig resembled a wild boar and passing drivers attempted to corner the animal.
"I looked ahead and I thought it was a dog," she said. "No one was out of the car trying to herd it. It kept trying to wander into the middle of the road. Three cars were trying to herd it."
Two drivers were able to restrain the pig until police arrived to capture the pig and take it to a local animal shelter.
"The pig has a few scrapes, and is a bit frightened. It is now sitting in the paddock at the shelter, and we have given it water and an orange to eat," Tracey Moore, Manager Animal Management at Auckland Council, told Stuff.
Moore said the pig was believed to have fallen out of a truck while being transported on the highway.
"We have not yet had any contact from a potential owner, who may not even be aware the pig is missing," Moore said.
