Beachgoers shocked by fisherman's tiger shark catch from shore

WARNBRO, Australia, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A visitor to a West Australian beach captured video of a group of men reeling in a tiger shark they caught after casting a line from shore.

Dorothy Symonds, 53, said she was visiting Warnbro Beach with her husband, Andy, Jan. 2 when they spotted a group of four men struggling with what she initially believed to be a sting ray, but soon discovered was a tiger shark.

"I've never seen a shark in real life before," Symonds told Perth Now. "I've swam at this beach all my life and I've never seen a shark before -- but there's clearly a lot of them out there."

Symonds captured video of the men removing the hook from the shark's mouth and dragging it back out to sea.

She said it took the group about 30 minutes to reel in the shark, which measured more than 6 feet long.

"I don't want to put people off going to the beach, it is a beautiful beach," Symonds said. "But people should be aware they are out there. It certainly gave me a shock."
