JIANGXI , China, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A baby monkey formed an unexpected familial bond with a herd of goats living in eastern China.

Tonggu County goat farmer Zhong Shu found the monkey clinging to the back of one of the goats, as seen in video shared by CCTV.

"The little monkey has been here for about four or five days. It seems the goats made it feel safe. Every time I came to shut goats in the fold at night, I found the monkey was either on the back of this goat or that goat. I tried to feed bananas to the monkey, but it did not eat and held on to the goat tightly," Zhong said.

Zhong said the monkey has accepted the goats as a surrogate mother and they remain inseparable.

The monkey regularly rides on a goat's back while the herd leaves to scavenge for food and sleeps with goats at night when they return.

Despite the monkey's strong bond with the goats, the county wildlife protection station plans to transfer it to nearby Yichun Zoo.
