Confrontation between dog and kangaroo blocks traffic in Australia

MELBOURNE, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Traffic in an Australian city hit an unusual morning delay when a kangaroo and a dog engaged in a rowdy dispute in the middle of a road.

The video, recorded Monday morning in north Melbourne, shows the dog and kangaroo facing one another in a road while stopped vehicles honk their horns and attempt to get around.

The confrontation between the two animals appeared heated, and involved aggressive posturing by both mammals, but did not appear to come to blows.

The traffic hazard eventually took care of itself when the kangaroo hopped toward the dog then left the scene when the canine flinched.

A kangaroo in the city of Hamilton recently went up against a different sort of mid-road obstacle -- the marsupial was sent swimming for safety when it became stranded on a flooded road.
