AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A New Zealand man filming the water with his drone captured a snorkeler's encounter with a friendly orca that joined him for a swim.

Sam Kynman-Cole posted a video to YouTube showing the killer whale swimming near a kayaker, who dons a snorkel and gets into the water in Army Bay, off the coast of Auckland.

The curious orca swims with the snorkeler until the man gets back in his kayak.

The whale then follows the kayak through the water, coming to the surface occasionally to greet its new friend.

Kynman-Cole said he took his drone out when he heard about orca sightings in the area, but he was not expecting to capture the whale's encounter with the kayaker.
