Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe POWAY, Calif., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Officials in a Southern California city said they had 50 tons of ice shipped in and turned into snow for a Winter Festival in the warm town. Carrie Sanchez, recreation supervisor for the Community Services Department in Poway, said the ice was shipped in and transformed into snow by special machines to allow residents of the city to experience winter traditions such as sledding amid weather above the 60 degree mark during the weekend, U-T San Diego reported Monday. Advertisement She said the third annual Winter Festival also included a synthetic skating rink in lieu of ice-friendly temperatures and winter-themed crafts. Andrew Medley of Carmel Mountain Ranch said the snow reminded him of growing up in Buffalo, N.Y. "I miss snow days," he said. "You'd be off from school and go outside and spend the day building snowmen. "But what I don't miss is shoveling it," he said.
