Deputy leaves gun in Macy's dressing room

NORFOLK, Va., April 3 (UPI) -- Authorities in Virginia said disciplinary action is being taken against a deputy who forgot his gun in a Macy's dressing room.

The Norfolk Sheriff's Office said the deputy, whose name was not released, accidentally left his gun at the Macy's in Norfolk and immediately informed his superiors Monday, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Wednesday.

"The deputy realized as soon as he returned home that he had left his weapon behind and immediately notified the store and the Norfolk Sheriff's Office's Professional Standards Division," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "The Norfolk Sheriff's Office considers this a very serious and unacceptable situation and has taken immediate and appropriate disciplinary action against the deputy."

Sheriff's spokeswoman Paula Miller said the gun was recovered.

The disciplinary actios taken against the deputy were not revealed by the sheriff's office.
