SEOUL, June 13 (UPI) -- South Korean drama Bloodhounds catapulted into Netflix global Top 10 chart on its premiere Friday, according to streaming data tracking firm Flixpatrol.

From there, it rose to the sixth spot on Saturday, then hit No. 2 Monday, just behind American series Never Have I Ever.

In the United States, it reached the No. 5 spot.

The eight-part action series, directed by Kim Joo-hwan, is an adaption of a popular Korean webtoon of the same title.

Set against the pandemic era, the series follows three young protagonists who get mired in the money-lending business but who defy and frustrate the rich and powerful preying on the weak.

Two of them, both boxers, take advantage of their fighting skills in helping protect people from vile loan sharks.

"This drama is full of action, much more than in my previous works. I'm really appreciative of the many people who worked to make it a success," Kim said in a media event before the show's release.

The drama stars Korean actors Woo Do-hwan, Lee Sang-yi, Heo Joon-ho and Kim Sae-ron.

South Korea's Studio N, an affiliate of Naver Webtoon, itself owned by South Korea's largest Internet search engine Naver, produced the series.

Previously Studio N was involved in another successful Webtoon-based drama called Sweet Home, the first South Korean drama series to break into Netflix's U.S. Top 10 and reach No. 3.

Netflix in April announced plans to invest $2.5 billion in South Korean content over the next four years.
