June 2 (UPI) -- The Mare of Easttown finale has become the most-watched episode on HBO Max.

HBO said Tuesday that the finale is the most-watched episode of an HBO original series on HBO Max.

The finale drew 4 million viewers over Memorial Day weekend, with nearly 3 million viewers across all platforms Sunday.

The episode had more viewers than the finales of the recent HBO hits The Undoing and The Flight Attendant within the same time period. Mare of Easttown and The Undoing are the only series in HBO history to have consecutive growth week-to-week.

Mare of Easttown is created by Brad Ingelsby and directed by Craig Zobel. Kate Winslet stars as Mare Sheehan, a small-town Pennsylvania detective who investigates a local murder as her personal life falls apart.

The series co-stars Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters, Guy Pearce, David Denman and Cailee Spaeny.

At a panel in April, Winslet said Mare is "nothing" like her. She said jumping from her role in the 2020 film Ammonite to playing Mare was "one of the biggest challenges" she's faced as an actor.

"I was looking for something that was going to consume me as much as this would," Winslet said. "It certainly did."
