July 28 (UPI) -- Streaming service Amazon Prime has renewed its sci-fi drama, The Expanse, for a fifth season.
"Here comes the juice - #TheExpanse Season 5 is officially confirmed," the show's Twitter feed said Saturday.
Season 4 is set to premiere Dec. 13.
A synopsis said the upcoming episodes begin "a new chapter for the series with the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the United Nations to explore new worlds beyond the Ring Gate.
"Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt."
The show stars Steven Strait, Wes Chatham, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Cas Anvar, Dominique Tipper and Frankie Adams.
Amazon saved the show from cancellation when the cable TV network Syfy dropped it after three seasons.
