Jan. 31 (UPI) -- The CW announced six new pilot orders Tuesday, including a reboot of Roswell. E! News reported the network will reimagine the original WB/UPN series, which was based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz
The original Roswell starred Shiri Appleby, Jason Behr and Katherine Heigl, and had a three-season run from 1999 to 2002. The show followed Liz Parker (Appleby), a high school student living in Roswell, N.M., who falls in love with an alien (Behr).
The Originals writer Carina Adly MacKenzie will write and executive produce the new series. The screenwriter confirmed the news Tuesday on Twitter.
"Thanks for all the congrats guys. I'm very grateful," she wrote, adding an alien, cactus and UFO emojis.

Kevin Kelly Brown, an executive producer on the original show, will also serve as executive producer, according to Deadline. The new series will reimagine Liz as the daughter of undocumented immigrants.
The CW also ordered pilots for In the Dark, Skinny Dip, Playing Dead, The End of the World As We Know It and Spencer. The new pilots join Dead Inside and the network's Charmed reboot, which Shannen Doherty weighed in on this week.
