Sept. 21 (UPI) -- The CW is developing a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot series that connects to their Archie comics-based drama, Riverdale.

The project, titled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, comes from the creative team behind Riverdale -- including chief creative officer of Archie comics Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Lee Toland Krieger, who directed multiple episodes of Riverdale, and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater, Variety reported.

The CW is eyeing the project to premiere during the 2018-2019 season.

Sabrina is a part of the cast of characters seen in Archie comics but has been missing in action in Riverdale. The magic user is currently the star of a new ongoing horror comic book series also titled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina that features a darker take on the character.

The new show is set to follow the new comic book series and feature Sabrina trying to come to terms with being a half-witch, half-human hybrid as she dabbles in witchcraft, Deadline reported.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is the second spinoff series The CW is planning, along with Wayward Sisters, which connects to Supernatural.
