Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Child actor Nicolas Bechtel has left the ABC soap opera General Hospital after four years of playing Spencer Cassadine.

Both the show and the actor appeared to leave the door open for his eventual return, however.‏

"Help us bid farewell (for now) to our very own Spencer Cassadine, @NicolasJBechtel! #GH," the daytime drama's Twitter account said Saturday.

The post accompanied a brief video of Bechtel explaining he was leaving the show to work on his Disney Channel sitcom, Stuck in the Middle.

"It's been an amazing run," he said, adding, "You'll see me soon, for sure."
