Alabama, Cyndi Lauper, Hank Williams Jr. to perform at Dolly Parton's telethon 'Smoky Mountains Rise'

NASHVILLE, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Cyndi Lauper, Hank Williams Jr., Don McLean, Alabama, Ronnie Dunn, Jamey Johnson and Lauren Alain have been added to the list of performers at Dolly Parton's Telethon Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefits for the My People Fund, which airs Tuesday.

The stars will join an impressive list of performers including Kenny Rogers, Reba McEntire, Alison Krauss, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Chris Stapleton, Chris Young, Big & Rich, Chris Janson, Montgomery Gentry and LoCash.

Paula Deen and her sons, RaeLynn and other celebrities will be answering the phones.

The telethon will raise money to help victims who lost their homes in the Great Smoky Mountains wildfires.

Parton's publicist told ABC News all of the proceeds from the musical event will go to the My People Fund, which was initiated by Parton's Dollywood companies and the Dollywood Foundation. The organization has already raised $1 million for the cause.

In addition, Parton pledged her companies would donate $1,000 per month for six months to families who lost their homes in the fires, the newspaper said.

"I've always believed charity begins at home, and my home is someplace special," Parton said when she announced the fund Nov. 30. "We want to provide a hand up to those families who have lost everything in the fires. I know it has been a trying time for my people, and this assistance will help get them back on their feet."
