LOS ANGELES, May 15 (UPI) -- NBC says it has ordered a spinoff series called The Blacklist: Redemption.

The Blacklist, starring James Spader, Megan Boone and Ryan Eggold, is now in its third season. The show centers on Spader's character Raymond "Red" Reddington, a U.S. Navy officer who becomes a high-profile criminal then helps the FBI catch some of the world's most dangerous villains with the help of Boone's young profiler Liz Keen, who was recently killed off of the show.

Eggold plays Liz's husband, covert operative Tom Keen. He will reprise his role in the new series. Janssen's Redemption character Susan "Scottie" Hargrave -- co-head of a secretive military intelligence firm -- was recently introduced on The Blacklist.

"In this thrilling new spinoff of NBC's breakout hit series, undercover operative Tom Keen joins forces with Susan 'Scottie' Hargrave, the brilliant and cunning chief of Grey Matters, a covert mercenary organization that solves problems governments don't dare touch," NBC said in a press release Sunday. "While on the hunt for Liz's attacker, Tom secretly discovered that Scottie is actually his biological mother. Now, as they team up to employ their unique skills and resources in a dangerous world of deadly criminals, Tom begins his own covert mission to find out more about his shadowy past."
