LOS ANGELES, April 27 (UPI) -- Fox says it has given a series order to the new action thriller 24: Legacy.

Starring Corey Hawkins, Miranda Otto and Jimmy Smits, the show about counterterrorism agents trying to save the world is to premiere during the 2016-17 television season.

It "chronicles an adrenaline-fueled race against the clock to stop a devastating terrorist attack on United States soil -- in the same real-time format that has propelled this genre-defining series," a network press release said Wednesday.

The original 24 series starred Kiefer Sutherland and ran 2001-10. It was followed by the 2014 miniseries 24: Live Another Day.
