ATLANTA, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The Librarians was renewed for a second season Thursday at TNT.

The drama is based on the television film series of the same name, and premiered in December 2014. Season one came to a close in January, and the network announced the program will return for a 10-episode second season.

The movies follow Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle), an overachieving student who leaves school to work at the Metropolitan Public Library. The character becomes the institution's Librarian, a leader who protects the building's historic and magical items.

The Librarians television series stars Rebecca Romijn as Eve Baird, a former NATO agent tasked with protecting Carsen and three new Librarians, genius Jacob Stone (Christian Kane), mathematician Cassandra Cillian (Lindy Booth) and expert thief Ezekiel Jones (John Kim).

The Librarians was developed by John Rogers, and ranked as the No. 2 new series on basic cable in 2014. The program was eclipsed only by fellow TNT drama The Last Ship, which was also renewed for a second season by the network.
