NEW YORK, July 31 (UPI) -- About 3.9 million viewers tuned in for Wednesday night's premiere of Sharknado 2: The Second One, Syfy announced Thursday.
The small-screen disaster film is now the channel's most watched original movie.
Starring Ian Ziering, Tara Reid and Vivica A. Fox, Sharknado 2 also inspired an estimated 1 billion impressions for Twitter conversations, Syfy said.
"At one point, Sharknado 2 held all top 10 trending topics in the United States. There were more mentions of Sharknado on Twitter than #MileyCyrus on the day of MTV's 2013 VMAs, #kimye on Kim and Kanye's wedding day and #transformers4, #thelegomovie, #godzillamovie and #22jumpstreet on each movie's worldwide premiere day," the cable network said in a news release. "Sharknado 2 is the most social movie on TV ever and was more social than any episode of Game of Thrones, The Bachelorette or Survivor."
