Alternate 'Breaking Bad' ending: It was all a dream

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- An alternate "Breaking Bad" ending leaked to the Internet showed the entire five years of drug dealing to be a bad dream by the dad on "Malcolm in the Middle."

Both Hal, Malcolm's frazzled father on the Fox sitcom, and Walter White, the high school chemistry teacher turned meth dealer on the AMC drama, were played by Bryan Cranston. In the alternate "Breaking Bad" ending, Cranston wakes from a dream of murder and drug dealing to find he is with Jane Kaczamarek, who played Hal's wife, Lois, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The alternate ending was made as a DVD special feature and was taken down because of copyright violation, the Times said.

The ending was a sort of double homage. The final episode of "Newhart" revealed the series starring Bob Newhart as a New England innkeeper to be a dream by the psychiatrist Newhart played on "The Bob Newhart Show."

That episode was a send-up of the episode of "Dallas" where the producers got themselves out of a tricky plot situation by revealing an entire season had been a dream.
