LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- About 28.37 million viewers tuned it for Sunday's Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, CBS said Monday.

The 2013 show celebrating the best in music had the second-largest audience for the awards broadcast since 1993, the network said, without disclosing the viewership for that year.

Nearly 40 million people watched the 2012 edition of the Grammy Awards, which featured quickly planned but heartfelt tributes to pop icon Whitney Houston, a singer who drowned the day before in a hotel bathtub after using drugs. She was 48.

British folk rock band Mumford & Sons took home the top prize of Album of the Year Sunday night for "Babel."
