Seinfeld to co-host 'Live' with Ripa

NEW YORK, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is to serve as the first guest host on "Live!" after Regis Philbin leaves the New York talk show this month, producers said.

TVGuide.com said Seinfeld will star opposite permanent co-host Kelly Ripa on three episodes, starting Nov. 21. Philbin is to leave the show Nov. 18.

"Jerry is a great friend of ours, and a friend of Kelly's, and it doesn't hurt that he's an entertainment icon," TVGuide.com quoted executive producer Michael Gelman as saying Tuesday. "It's a great way to kick off the new beginning of our show."

A permanent replacement for Philbin has not yet been announced.
