Betty White to host 'SNL'

NEW YORK, March 11 (UPI) -- U.S. television star Betty White is to serve as guest host of an upcoming episode of "Saturday Night Live," NBC said Thursday.

This will mark her first appearance on the sketch comedy series.

The six-time Emmy winner is best known for her portrayal of Rose Nylund on NBC's "The Golden Girls." Previously, she co-starred as Sue Ann Nivens in the classic comedy series "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

In January, White was presented with the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.

"I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day weekend than with Betty White," Lorne Michaels, creator and executive producer of "SNL," said in a statement.
