Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Country music singer Toby Keith has died.

Keith's team announced on his website Tuesday that Keith died Monday following a battle with stomach cancer. He was 62.

"Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time," the post reads.

Keith's publicist, Elaine Schock, confirmed the star's death to CNN.

Keith had announced in June 2022 that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in fall of 2021.

"I've spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery," he said at the time. "So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can't wait."

Keith is survived by his wife, Tricia, and three children, Shelley, Krystal and Stelen.

The singer released his self-titled debut album in 1993, which featured the single "Should've Been a Cowboy." His later hits included "How Do You Like Me Now?!," "Beer for My Horses," "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," "I Love This Bar" and "Red Solo Cup."

Keith's most recent album, Peso in My Pocket, was released in 2021. He performed at the People's Choice Country Awards in September 2023, where he received the Country Icon Award.
