Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Newly-engaged couple Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd attended the 2017 Academy of Country Music Honors this week.

The 27-year-old country star and 32-year-old singer-songwriter were all smiles at the event Wednesday in Nashville, which marked their first public appearance since Hurd's proposal in July, according to People.

Morris wore a bralette top and a white skirt with a colorful inset pleat design. She couldn't help but gush about her engagement and future wedding while speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet.

"Oh, I sobbed," the country star said of Hurd's proposal. "I mean, it was so emotional and so perfect. He's a very thoughtful human being, and I feel like the proposal was just as thoughtful as he always is. So it was perfect."

"I think we're kind of honing in on the springtime, before we kick off our tours again," she added of their wedding plans. "[We're] just enjoying being engaged."

Morris said in an interview with People published in January that she and Hurd first met as songwriters in 2013. The pair collaborated on the song "Last Turn Home," which was ultimately recorded by Tim McGraw.

"It was the start of a wonderful writing relationship," Morris recalled. "It's one of my favorite songs that we've ever been a part of."

"We had been friends for only a couple of years, but there was always this writing chemistry in the room, and eventually, the timing of it was undeniable," she said of their later romance.

Morris paid tribute to Glen Campbell at the ACM Honors by performing the late singer's song "Galveston." The gala honored the special award honorees and the off-camera winners from the 2017 ACM Awards.
