Joining Nelson at the KeyBank Pavillion in Burgettstown, Pa. on Sept. 16 will be John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews, all of whom are board members for the annual charity. Other artists to join the fray include Tim Reynolds, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, The Avett Brothers, Jamey Johnson, and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real and Insects vs Robots.
Farm Aid is held at different locations each year and was last held in Burgettstown, located about 25 miles from Pittsburgh, in 2002.
"Family farm agriculture is the heart of Pennsylvania," said Nelson, who founded Farm Aid in 1985. "What's happening in western Pennsylvania and the region shows us that we can count on family farmers to strengthen our communities and connect people. Whether we live in rural or urban places, food - and music - brings us all together."
The Farm Aid mission is to promote local farmers and the Good Food Movement. The event has raised more than $50 million for that cause since it began.
At Farm Aid 2016, held in Bristow, Va., Young told the crowd that "There's a revolution starting!"
He added: "It's called eating good food that your neighbors made for you...Let the earth bring us all together, back to the roots. Eat good food. You don't need the drugs anymore. It took us a long time to get this far. We have a long way to go. But with people like you, we're going to make it!"
