July 31 (UPI) -- With a little movie magic, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro appears decades younger than his true age in the first trailer for the true crime saga, The Irishman.
De Niro, 75, plays World War II veteran and mob hit man Frank Sheeran in the movie, which was directed by Martin Scorsese.
Set to open the New York Film Festival, the film follows Sheeran's relationship with the iconic union boss Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino.) It is based on Charles Brandt's non-fiction book, I Heard You Paint Houses.
"I heard you paint houses," Sheeran, who appears to be in his 40s, tells Hoffa by phone in Wednesday's 2-minute preview.
"Yes, I do, sir," Sheeran replies, confirming he kills people for money.
"There's a situation going on now, Frank," Hoffa adds. "Big business and the government, they're trying to pull us down. Would you like to be a part of this history?"
"Yes, I would. Whatever you need me to do, I'm available," Sheeran says.
The film's ensemble also includes Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jack Huston, Kathrine Narducci, Jesse Plemons, Domenick Lombardozzi, Paul Herman, Gary Basaraba and Marin Ireland.
Scorsese, De Niro and Pesci famously collaborated on the films Raging Bull (1980,) Goodfellas (1990) and Casino (1995.)
