May 24 (UPI) -- Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan fight to save the universe in the final trailer for director Luc Besson's upcoming sci-fi thriller, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

The clip, released Wednesday, explores the city of Alpha and how it houses species from across the universe.

When the peaceful metropolis is threatened by an unknown force, Delevingne and DeHaan are called in to identify and destroy the threat before it is too late.

"After centuries of peace and prosperity, an unknown force wants to destroy all we have created," a voiceover mentions before high-speed chases and gunfights against alien monsters are shown.

"In the 28th century, Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories," reads the synopsis.

"Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha -- an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe," it continues.
