Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Oprah Winfrey may star in a remake of the tearjerker film Terms of Endearment. Lee Daniels (Precious, The Butler) is in talks to direct the 63-year-old actress and television personality in a new version of the 1983 movie that starred Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger, according to The Wrap.

Sources told the website Paramount Pictures has secured the rights to Terms of Endearment for Daniels. The film is based on the Larry McMurty novel of the same name, which follows the relationship between a mother and daughter.
James L. Brooks directed the 1983 version, which won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for MacLaine. The movie co-starred Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito and John Lithgow.
Daniels is an Academy Award-winning director also known for creating the Fox series Empire. The 57-year-old was honored with the Cinema Vanguard award at the African-American Film Critics Association Awards on Wednesday.
"All of our honorees are serious players who are helping to move the industry forward in terms of creating images that are diverse and inclusive," AAFCA president Gil Robertson said in October.
"They are all cultural visionaries who deserve to be recognized for their roles in advancing projects that have paid of critically and financially and we look forward to celebrating their careers," he added.
Winfrey played Gloria Gaines in Daniels' movie The Butler. She will also star in a new adaptation of the Madeleine L'Engle novel A Wrinkle in Time with Storm Reid, Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
