Shailene Woodley says she's done with 'Divergent' franchise

Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Shailene Woodley has officially cut ties with the Divergent franchise.

The 25-year-old actress confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair at the Big Little Lies premiere Tuesday that she won't reprise Beatrice "Tris" Prior in Ascendant given the film's move to television.

"No," she said when asked if she'd star in the TV adaptation. "I'm not going to be on the television show."

Woodley played Tris in Divergent (2014), Insurgent (2015) and Allegiant (2016), which were to be followed by Ascendant as a final installment. News broke in July that Ascendant would skip theaters in favor of a TV movie or series.

"I didn't sign up to be in a television show," the actress told Screen Rant in September.

"Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I'm not necessarily interested in doing a television show," she said.

The Divergent movies are based on the Veronica Roth book series of the same name. The films co-starred Theo James as Tobias "Four" Eaton, Miles Teller as Peter Hayes and Ansel Elgort as Caleb Prior.

"You go online [and] they say, 'Last one's being made into a TV movie and no cast is confirmed,' and that's where it's at," Teller told E! News in November. "My phone's not ringing for it, so I don't know."

Ascendant's move to TV was largely attributed to Allegiant's underwhelming performance at the box office. The film earned $179 million, while Divergent and Insurgent earned $288 million and $297 million, respectively.
