Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Jemima Kirke says acting is to blame for her divorce.
The 31-year-old British actress explained in an interview with ES Magazine how her thought process as an actor led her to question her marriage to husband Michael Mosberg.
"I got divorced and I attribute that to acting. And just asking myself, 'Is this really me?'" Kirke said. "So much of my life has been about reaction, just following the flow rather than making a strong choice."
"In acting you are always asking yourself why you do things, why you make the choices you make. Everything means something. And so then you start looking at your own life in that way," she elaborated. "I've learnt a lot more about myself and started to figure out what I really want."
People reported in January that Kirke and Mosberg had split after seven years of marriage. The couple, who share 6-year-old daughter Rafaella and 4-year-old son Memphis, met in rehab.
"The reason I never talked about it before is because I wasn't sure what the [expletive] I was," the actress told The Telegraph in February 2016.
"When you are in rehab, and after it, you think you are an addict. I didn't feel that the label fitted, but I was scared that if I abandoned it, then I would go right back to where I was. That is the message sent to you when you are in these establishments," she said.
Kirke is best known for playing Jessa Johansson on the HBO series Girls. The show co-stars Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Adam Driver, and will premiere a sixth and final season Feb. 12.
