The film, which will reunite Jennifer with Hunger Games franchise director Francis Lawrence, follows the story of a Russian intelligence officer (Lawrence) who later becomes a "Sparrow," a highly-trained seductress who must now operate against a CIA agent who deals with an important Russian mole.

Eventually the two officers fall in love which threatens their career and the safety of the valuable mole in Moscow. Edgerton would potentially join Red Sparrow as the CIA agent.

No production start date or release date has been revealed.

Edgerton will next be seen in the love drama Loving opposite Ruth Negga. The film, due in theaters Nov. 4, retells the story of real life interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving who fought for their right to marry in their home state of Virginia in the 1960s.
