LOS ANGELES, July 15 (UPI) -- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is giving fans a first glimpse of the character Mantis.

The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel released concept art featuring the new character, played by actress Pom Klementieff, that director James Gunn shared on social media.

"First bit of concept art for #GotGVol2, first revealed by our friends @entertainmentweekly. Art by the great @andyparkart," Gunn captioned the photo.

The art sees Drax (Dave Bautista), baby Groot (Vin Diesel), Yondu (Michael Rooker), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) assemble in front of an explosive backdrop. Mantis is an alien acquaintance of the Guardians.

"She has never really experienced social interaction," executive producer Jonathan Schwartz told EW. "Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social interactions from."

Schwartz also said the new Groot will be different from his incarnation in the first movie. The popular character was rebirthed from a sapling after sacrificing himself to save the Guardians.

"He doesn't have the wisdom and experience of that Groot," Schwartz revealed. "He's a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that's sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?"
