Tom Hardy to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in 'The Revenant'

The actors previously collaborated on Christopher Nolan's "Inception" (2010).

LOS ANGELES, July 3 (UPI) -- Tom Hardy has joined the cast of The Revenant.

The film is a new revenge thriller based on the Michael Punke novel of the same name. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Hugh Glass, a real-life 1800s frontiersman left for dead and robbed after a bear attack. A deserted and defenseless Glass survives the ordeal, and sets out on a treacherous path of revenge.

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel) will direct the film, with Paul Green, Brett Ratner and James Packer as executive producers. Gravity cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki is also onboard.

Hardy previously starred with DiCaprio in Christopher Nolan's Inception. The actor will appear in a number of upcoming films, including The Drop with late star James Gandolfini and Mad Max: Fury Road.

The Revenant is scheduled for release in 2015.
