'Saving Mr. Banks' to open AFI Fest in Hollywood this fall

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- "Saving Mr. Banks" is to open the American Film Institute's festival in Hollywood this fall, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures announced Wednesday.

The movie is based on the true story of how Walt Disney's 1964 classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the big screen.

Starring Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, Bradley Whitford, Annie Rose Buckley, Ruth Wilson, B.J. Novak, Rachel Griffiths, Kathy Baker and Colin Farrell, the movie will have its North American premiere at the AFI festival's opening night gala Nov. 7 at the TCL Chinese Theatre, formerly Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
