Katie Holmes posts makeup-free selfie

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Katie Holmes showed off her natural beauty in a makeup-free selfie Wednesday.

The 38-year-old actress celebrated the new year by posting the barefaced photo on Instagram.

"Happy January," she captioned the picture, adding a heart emoji.

Holmes has been known for her fresh-faced look since her days on The WB series Dawson's Creek. She discussed her beauty routine in an interview with Hello! in 2015, revealing she takes extra care of her complexion.

"I regularly exfoliate and hydrate my skin as often as I can," the star shared. "I also drink a lot of water, and exercise to help keep my skin in order."

Holmes celebrated her 38th birthday with daughter Suri Cruise in December 2016. She shares Suri with ex-husband Tom Cruise, and recently told the New York Times the 10-year-old is "a remarkable person."

"I try to make our world very much an environment that's just all about being a kid without too much of Hollywood coming into that. And I just enjoy it," the actress said.

"Honestly I think that there are so many books and opinions about how to be a great mom, and you have good days and bad days, but sometimes you do great and sometimes you could have done better," she added. "But I have to say I'm really enjoying having a 10-year-old."

Holmes last starred in her directorial debut, All We Had, which is based on the Annie Weatherwax novel of the same name. She will reprise Jackie Kennedy in the Reelz miniseries The Kennedys: After Camelot.
